right rear wheel will not turn

Post by buddyhonker »

my 1987 ym276d right rear wheel will not turn. i removed all the bolts on the brake cover except the bottom bolt which is located directly behing the brake camshaft connector which also will not move. I removed the brake rod and then tapped on the connector lightly with hammer and it still won't move to give me access to the bottom bolt. I'm thinking my brake shoes or something behind the brake cover plate has broken up and causing wheel to not turn but cannot get last bolt out because brake camshaft connector is stuck and in the way.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
helpless.

Seems like the brake cams are bad about freezing up in there. Lots of penetrating oil and keep trying to work it back and forth. No way to get between it and housing with open end wrench? https://www.hoyetractor.com/PROD/194312-36720-X.htm

Once those cams freeze up in the cover it can be really hard to get the cover off. Sometimes, if the cam gets stuck too bad and the brake drums have any kind of lip that catches the shoes- there might be no other option than to destroy the cover to get it off. The video below discusses that a little bit

i have a service manual i got from Hoye and it has diagram showing all parts. I guess i'm just gonna have to try harder to loosen camshaft with hammer and force it to move so i can get to bolt. thanks

Thanks to all who replied and gave helpful information. I sprayed the bolts on the brake cover with bolt loosener and beat the cam shaft back somewhat and finally got to the last bolt. After removing all bolts, i tapped a screwdriver in between cover and brake housing and after working my way around the cover it finally came off. the brake shoes and springs had practically disintegrated. i removed the brake shoes and springs and put brake cover back on and removed the rods connecting the brake pedal to camshaft. Back in business!
